Projects

These are a few of my personal projects. For a more thorough work history see my about page or check out my LinkedIn profile.

FotoJournal

FotoJournal

FotoJournal is a hosted service I co-founded that allows photographers to easily create a professional blog, with zero hassle. It launched in April 2012 and has grown steadily since then.

jQuery Modal

jQuery Modal

jQuery Modal is my most popular open-source project, and provides a lightweight alternative to libraries like ColorBox. It aims to be small, fast, and easy to use. It (intentionally) has few options, but can be completely styled with simple CSS and has JavaScript hooks for attaching custom functionality. Check out jquerymodal.com for more info or view the project on GitHub.

Crafting Type

Crafting Type

Crafting Type is a font design workshop I co-organized with Jeff Archibald that ran August 27-31, 2012 in Edmonton. Based on the success & amount of interest of the Edmonton event, our instructors plan to hold similar workshops worldwide. Sign up for the mailing list at craftingtype.com to be notified of upcoming workshops.

Typesetting the Web

Typesetting the Web

Typesetting the Web is a talk I gave at WordCamp Edmonton in November 2012. The talk broadly covers three topics: why typography matters, how to choose quality fonts, and how to style those fonts effectively. The slides are available on SpeakerDeck.

Typekit Tweaker

Typekit Tweaker is an open-source bookmarklet & Google Chrome extension that allows you to adjust the styling of font previews on Typekit. Warning: once you get used to it, it's hard to go without. I've been told member of the Typekit team even use it themselves!

PhotoBattle

PhotoBattle

PhotoBattle is a fun site I whipped up one afternoon that allows presents two photos a time and allows people to vote on their favourite. There have been almost 400,000 battles "fought" since launch, and some spectacular photos have risen to the top.
